Nowadays, with a lot of people scouting for home-based data entry jobs, some malicious entities have taken to fraudulent practices. They would offer home-based data entry jobs but only end up taking you and your money for a ride.

Signs you should take note of to avoid scammers

The most obvious trademark of scam home-based data entry jobs is that they ask for money up front. Supposedly, these companies are associated with several companies that outsource data entry work. In order to get access to these data entry work, you need to pay the scam companies to sign up. This is illogical in the business process sense. If you were these companies with so many data entry work, you will welcome anyone who’d want to take work for you. These data entry work are often time-sensitive. They need to be accomplished quickly and within the agreed time frame. Companies, if they weren’t scam companies, would ideally want to get these off their hands as soon as possible. They will do their job of finding qualified freelance employees – some even pay to do this – and get the data entry jobs done. This way, they get paid by their client companies and then pay you a portion of this. If a company asks for money from you, it casts doubt on their legitimacy.

Legitimate companies would likewise have the appropriate contact information. This means they will publish numbers and email addresses you can use to get through to them should you have inquiries. Their email addresses should ideally be using their own domain, and not the free email domains, like Yahoo or Gmail. They will likewise have a legitimate office you can visit any time. In fact, a legitimate company would want to qualify their applicants. They can’t just hire anyone who pays. Someone interested in data entry work should take the needed exams and pass these first.

Speed does not necessarily make someone good in data entry jobs. Speed can be a great attribute, yes. Speed is especially valued in data entry jobs, where the workload is huge. However, speed alone can spell disaster if the person is not thorough. Many errors can be made and this can mean decreases in paychecks. Worse case, the client might go give the data entry jobs to somebody else. It is very important to come out with near perfect work, with minimal errors.

Tips to improve your typing skills

Speed can allow you to provide timely work, and this is good. Data entry work is usually required to be turned over within twenty-four hours of receiving the job. If the data entry worker is fast, he or she can accomplish a lot more, given the typical working hours. However, if the quality of work is compromised by errors, all that speed may just turn out to be useless. If an editor will just keep on correcting work or giving them back for rework, might as well slow down and do a better job. Work on speed only after you’ve improved on work quality.

To improve speed, during your off time, try to practice on your computer’s keyboards. You will more or less be familiar with the letters and where they are positioned in a typical keyboard. To practice, try to type accurately without looking at your keyboard. This is the same practice used way back when computers were not popularly used, with typewriters and teachers who will swat you with a ruler whenever you make a mistake. Strive for accuracy here. You may not type as fast as first. But, in time, as soon as you get the correct feel of the keyboards, you will find a comfortably fast pace. Output will increase; and your accuracy will improve.
