If you’ve found a reputable company that would offer you a home-based data entry job with nice compensation, then you just have to arm yourself with the right tools to undertake this new profession.

A home-based data entry job would require a functioning PC set up and reliable or fast Internet connection.
Set up a comfortable work space in your home where you would be able to concentrate on your home-based data entry job without having to shut off the rest of the world.

A person employed in a home-based data entry job is expected to perform well even without much supervision. Since there would be no one to give you orders or coach you about the job, you must be able to comprehend the instructions given to you through email. Though the Philippine educational system has equipped most Filipinos with excellent English proficiency skills and other talents starting at a young age, brush up on your grammar and English skills through on-line tutorials as well.

Enroll in transcriptionist courses that are being offered by academic institutions who specialize in teaching the basics of being employed in Internet-dependent occupations such as a home-based data entry job in medical transcription. If you don’t have the extra cash to shell out, you could also look into free home-based data entry job tutorials on-line.

If in case your home system crashes, have a back up Internet cafe that you could go take your home-based data entry job to. However, make sure to keep your work files and other data secure. Delete the files you made on a public computer after ensuring that you have sent it or kept a personal copy.

How big is the BPO industry in the Philippines and what is its projected growth ?

The saying that a nation’s strength lies in its people rings true.

The Philippines has yet again become one of the leading suppliers of labor worldwide without having to physically export people to other countries largely due to the booming business of BPOs. Call centers, medical transcribing,  website content, and even legal and IT support are just a few of the services that BPO companies in the Philippines dish out to international clients on the look out for quality service at a much cheaper rate.

Currently, a two hundred thousand-strong workforce comprises the BPO industries nationwide, bringing in almost $5 billion into the country’s revenue every year. The Business Processing Association of the Philippines  (BPAP) aims to make the Philippine BPO workforce a million strong by 2010.

Unfortunately, the Philippines is not alone in dominating the BPO industry worldwide. Other countries such as India and China are into the international BPO market as well and their asking prices are way cheaper than those from the Philippines. Clients from abroad however prefer BPO services supplied by the Philippines for our unabashed proficiency in the English language and the sterling quality of intelligence and customer service that we provide. This is an industry that is no longer Manila-centric as more locations are being opened up in key cities around the nation, giving opportunities to Filipinos all over the country to partake in a booming business.

Government support
The Internet has proven to be an advantageous tool in providing Filipinos with employment opportunities, uplifting not only an individual’s financial standing, but also boosting the country’s revenue. In a recent conference on Internet and Computer Technology-based job opportunities held at the SMX Convention Center last February 2008, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo stressed on the large impact the BPO industry has made in boosting the country’s financial revenue and has proposed further development of the industry by granting a P350 million fund for training applicants. Starting improvement in the academe is also one move suggested by Sen. Francis Pangilinan in a separate statement to further prepare Filipinos for occupations in this burgeoning industry.
